Kaitlin Hankins, a junior majoring in Spanish Education at Youngstown State University, has been awarded the Ohio International Consortium Donald N. Nelson Scholarship to help defray the cost of her study abroad program.

Hankins, from Sparta, Ohio, will be travelling to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in March for four months to study Spanish at the University of Belgrano.

Hankins was chosen from 18 candidates from across Ohio for the $1,000 award, which is given three times a year in honor of Donald N. Nelson and his contributions to international education. Nelson was a founding member of the OIC in 1991, and was active on the state and national levels promoting foreign study since he began at Miami University in 1961. The OIC continues his goal of expanding and enhancing the involvement of Ohio’s public four-year universities with study abroad programs.
