Metro College offers language classes

The Youngstown State University Metro College in Boardman is offering four language courses for beginners or those looking to refresh their conversational skills.

An open house is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 3, at Metro College, 100 DeBartolo Place, Suite 200, to provide an opportunity to see if the classes meet your needs. Registration for the open houses is free by calling 330-941-2465. The open house for the Italian class begins at 6:30 p.m., for French at 7 p.m., for Arabic at 7:30 p.m. and for Spanish at 7:30 p.m.

The classes are:

  • Introductory Italian, taught by Lisa Dolasinski, teaches students basic useful language skills, such as ordering food and using public transportation. The class, if taken with successive sessions, could lead to a certificate in Elementary Italian. The class meets 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from March 5 through April 23. The cost is $149 if registered by Feb 19, and $169 after.
  • Conversational French for Beginners, taught by Ron Saffell, focuses on listening skills, vocabulary, grammar and discussions of French culture. The class meets 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 21 to April 11. The cost is $149 if registered by Feb. 7, and $169 after.
  • Beginning Arabic, taught by Madeline Clendenin, introduces students to the Arabic alphabet while starting conversation skills and learning about Arab traditions. Dates and times to be announced. The cost $149 for early registration, and $169 regular after.
  • Conversational Spanish, taught by Barbara Kurz, teaches students to speak, read and write key Spanish phrases while discussing the varied cultures of Spanish-speaking people. The class meets 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays from Feb. 25 to April 15. The cost is $149 if registered by Feb. 11, and $169 after.
