Dana bands present “Pageant” Monday, March 3

“Pageant,” a concert by the YSU Dana School of Music’s University and Concert Bands, will be at 8 p.m. Monday,  March 3, at Stambaugh Auditorium.

The University Band will be conducted by Stephen Gage, Brandt Payne, and Kevin Scales, while the Concert band will be conducted by Payne and Guest Conductor Michael Kelly, director of bands at Canfield High School and a graduate of Dana.

Selections by the University Band include Charles Carter’s “Overture for Winds,” Andrew Boysen Jr.’s “In Heaven’s Air,” Clare Grundman’s “Norwegian Rhapsody” and Davide Delle “Cese’s L’Inglesina.” The Concert Band will perform Tielman Susato’s “Selections from The Danserye,” Rossano Galante’s “A Childhood Remembered,” Vincent Persichetti’s “Pageant” and John Philip Sousa’s “The Liberty Bell.”

Kelly will conduct “A Childhood Remembered.” Previous to his appointment at Canfield, Kelly taught instrumental, vocal, and general music for eight years in the James A. Garfield Local Schools in Garrettsville, Ohio. Kelly received his Master’s of Music in Performance-Instrumental Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Education from the Dana School of Music.

Concert tickets are $5; $4 for students and senior citizens, and free for anyone with a valid YSU ID.
