Oct. 20 Crash Day features tours, football, fun

October 5, 2012  |

Prospective students, parents, family and friends will learn about the campus, meet faculty, attend a volleyball game, enjoy a tailgate lunch and cheer on the nationally-ranked Penguins football team at Youngstown State University’s second Crash Day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who may be interested in pursuing a college education to visit the campus in an informal setting, get a taste of university life, meet students and faculty and see firsthand our beautiful campus and facilities,” said Jack Fahey, YSU vice president for Student Affairs.

“Students, their families and their friends will come away from Crash Day with a better understanding of the college experience and a better appreciation of Youngstown State and all we have to offer.”

Participants will start the day in the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson will be on hand for the opening, and students can get photos with the university’s popular mascot – Pete the Penguin. Participants will then explore various academic departments, including visits with faculty, followed by lunch in one of YSU’s tailgate lots. The afternoon includes tours of the 145-acre YSU campus and residence halls, presentations by Admissions and Financial Aid offices and a visit to the Recreation and Wellness Center. At 2 p.m., participants can crash the YSU women’s volleyball game in Beeghly Center, and then at 4 p.m., Crash Day participants will attend the football game against Southern Illinois in Stambaugh Stadium.

All activities, including lunch, are free.
