Business/Professional Development seminars announced
The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University is offering a series of seminars to advance the skills and expertise of professionals in the private, public and nonprofit sectors.
The Business & Professional Development Seminar Series features the following seminars:
Seminar #1: How to Design a Survey, Friday, Feb. 22. Participants will learn how to develop a survey plan, choose among various question types, and properly word questions and response options. Tips and techniques for constructing quality surveys will also be shared. The facilitator is Kendra Fowler, YSU assistant professor of Marketing. Before obtaining her Ph.D. in Marketing at Kent State University, Fowler was the senior marketing research analyst for a daily newspaper and worked as a freelance research consultant. Her teaching and research interests include services marketing and retailing.
Seminar #2: Top 10 Things Professional Women Must Know About Their Finances, Friday, March 22. This workshop will help professional women examine and understand some of the critical aspects of their financial situation and guide them in taking meaningful steps to success. The facilitator is Jill McCullough, who has more than 20 years of experience in financial planning. A Certified Financial Planner Practitioner since 1992 and in private practice until 2007, McCullough and her business partner managed in excess of $60 million in investments. As an independent financial planner, McCullough focused on helping women overcome their unique challenges and to identify opportunities through effective financial planning. McCullough earned a doctorate in management from the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University. She is currently an assistant professor of Finance at the Lariccia School of Finance and Accounting at YSU.
Seminar #3: Social Media Best Practices, Friday, May 3. Through the examination of best practices of companies from a variety of industries, this seminar will help participants’ understand, plan, and strategize how to use social media to communicate with customers to create value. The facilitator is Patrick J. Bateman, an assistant professor of Management. He has a background as a financial analyst, corporate education manager, and technical analyst in the banking and financial services industries. His teaching and research interests include the dynamics of social media and individuals’ use of interactive media. He earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh.
All seminars will be in the Williamson College of Business Administration Conference Center on the third Floor of Williamson Hall on the YSU campus. Free parking is available on Wood Street across from Williamson Hall.
Registration and continental breakfast will take place from 8 to 8:30 a.m. The program will run 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The cost is $100 per session. Advanced registration and payment is required. Limited seating available. Online registration is available on the Williamson College of Business Administration website.
