Healthy OhioFor the third consecutive year, the Ohio Department of Health has recognized Youngstown State University with the Healthy Worksite Award.

For 2013, YSU earned the Silver Award, up from the Bronze Awards in 2011 and 2012. YSU won the honor in the Large Business category. In all, 40 awards were presented, out of 96 applicants. Ohio State was the only other university to receive an award, earning a Bronze.

The awards recognize Ohio employers who demonstrate a commitment to employee health through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs.

“Many of our health problems can be attributed to poor diets, inactive and sedentary lifestyles, tobacco use, and alcohol and drug consumption, which means preventive health and wellness programs are an essential part of improving health outcomes for all Ohioans,” said Ted Wymyslo, director of the Ohio Department of Health. “The companies that have won the Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksite award are helping to lead the way in this effort by providing outstanding wellness programs for their employees.”
