Wednesday, Oct. 2, 7:30 p.m. Maxine Clark, founder and chief executive of Build-A-Bear Workshop, is the featured speaker at the Paul J. and Marguerite K. Thomas Colloquium on Free Enterprise in Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. Free.
Thursday, Oct. 3. Hundreds of students and teachers from high schools throughout the region attend MathFest, which includes a variety of math-related workshops and contests, in Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus.
Thursday, Oct. 3, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Opening reception for a new exhibit by YSU alumna Janna Wheeler titled “Revealing the Unacknowledged,” in the Bliss Gallery in Bliss Hall and the YSU campus. More here.
Thursday, Oct. 3. “It’s Not About WEIGHT Management, It’s About WAIST Management,” a presentation by Armon Shayesteh, will be in the Trustees Meeting Room in Tod Hall on the YSU campus. Shayesteh is a board certified nutritionist and diabetes educator, and a registered dietitian and weight loss specialist. The presentation is part of the YSU Alumni Lecture Series. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m., with the lecture at 6:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5, 8 p.m. YSU’s Ward Beecher Planetarium presents “Cosmic Colors.” The planetarium also features “This is Our Sky” at 1 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Free.
Saturday, Oct. 5, 1 p.m. Women’s soccer features Penguins against Green Bay at Farmers National Bank Field on the YSU campus.
Friday, Oct. 4, noon to 8:30 p.m. Yogathon, featuring seven presentations ranging from Mindfulness to Yin Yoga, will be in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The program supports the Joanie’s Promise Fund at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Cost is $15 for one class and $25 for two. Saturday, Oct. 5, noon to 3 p.m. Hispanic Heritage Celebration will take place in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The main event of the celebration features animals from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, musical entertainment, children’s activities and student recognitions, as well as vendors, cultural displays, an informational fair and Hispanic foods for purchase. Sunday, Oct. 6. The 11th annual Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival, sponsored by the Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies at YSU and the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, opens. The festival features six films screened over a 23-day period, Oct. 6 to 29. More here.
