Monday, Oct. 28, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Greg Darnieder, the U.S. Secretary of Education’s senior advisor on the College Access Initiative, is the featured guest at YSU’s College Access Summit in McKay Auditorium, Beeghly Hall, on the YSU campus.

Monday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m. Jeff Halper, peace activist, anthropologist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, lectures on “The Search for Peace in the Middle East” in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center.

Monday, Oct. 28, 5:30 p.m. Chad Whitacre, founder of GitTip, presents a free lecture in the McDonough Museum of Art.

Monday, Oct. 28, 8 p.m. Dana School of Music tuba and euphonium students perform in Bliss Recital Hall, including the YSU premiere of a new piece by James Grant – “10 Blind Dates for Solo Tuba.” The performance is part of Octubafest. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. Gerda Weissman Klein, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, talks about her experiences during the Holocaust following a screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary film about her life, “One Survivor Remembers,” in the Chestnut Room in Kilcawley Center. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 12:15 p.m. The YSU Dana School of Music presents a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art, featuring tuba/euphonium. The performance is part of Octubafest.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m. Noted international artist Marlena Buczek Smith is the final speaker in the Graphic Voices: A Lecture Series on Poster Design and Creative Activism, in the McDonough Museum of Art. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. Best-selling author David Sedaris, one of America’s preeminent humor writers, presents a reading from his latest book, “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls”, in the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m. Dana School of Music tuba and euphonium students perform in in Bliss Recital Hall, showcasing their creative performing skills and Halloween costumes. Friday, Nov. 1, 4 p.m. YSU’s Dana School of Music presents a free lecture by noted musicologist Raymond Knapp in Bliss Recital Hall. The lecture, titled, “Waitin’ for the Light to Shine: Musicals and Disability, ” is open to the public. Friday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. YSU volleyball takes on Wright State in Beeghly Center. The Penguin volleyballers play Oakland at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, also in Beeghly Center.

Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2, 8 p.m. Ward Beecher Planetarium presents “Firefall.” The planetarium also presents “Comet the Cat and the Rocks from Space” at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.

Sunday, Nov. 3, 3 p.m. Members of the Warren-Youngstown Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae are sponsoring recital in honor of Mary B. Monday, Nov. 4, 6 p.m. The Stiletto Brass Quintet, an all-female brass group, performs a free concert in Bliss Recital Hall. The recital, sponsored by YSU’s Dana School of Music, is open to the public.
