Wednesday, April 23. YSU celebrates Earth Day. More than 20 groups will have displays and information, including Ohio EPA, Grow Youngstown, Mahoning County Soil and Water, Friends of the Mahoning River, Cityscape, Treez Please, Green Team, Eastgate and Western Reserve Land Conservancy. Wednesday, April 23, 12:15 p.m. Dana School of Music presents a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art.
Wednesday, April 23, 7 p.m. The 55th annual YSU Honors Convocation will be in Beeghly Center. Dozens of student awards will be presented, as well as the Distinguished Professor awards.
Wednesday, April 23, 7:30 p.m. Mark Z. Jacobson, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and director of the Atmosphere Energy Program at Stanford University, lectures at YSU as part of the Earth Day 2014 celebration. The free lecture via Skype will be in Moser Hall Room 2000 on the YSU campus. More here.
Thursday, April 24 2014, 6 p.m. YSU’s annual Student Awards Banquet will be in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. The event includes honors for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, Student Affairs and Student Government Association awards and the YSU Pin Award, which recognizes up to five graduating seniors who have achieved academic success and demonstrated outstanding leadership, motivation, and creativity in university and community activities.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 24, 25, 26 and 27. YSU’s Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series and the Dana School of Music present Gilbert & Sullivan’s two one-act operas, “Trial By Jury” and “Cox & Box,” in Bliss Hall ‘s Ford Theater on campus. Thursday through Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee performance is at 2 p.m. More here.
Friday, April 25, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Stand Against Racism, featuring a screening of the movie “An Ordinary Hero: The True Story of Joan Trumpauer Mulholland,” will be in Kilcawley Center on campus. More here.
Friday, April 25, 4:30 p.m. Mara Prentiss, professor of Physics at Harvard University, lectures in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Lecture Series. The lecture, free and open to the public, is titled “How Small Things Construct Themselves: Insights Into the Physics of Life.” More here.
