‘Strategic Development of HR’ seminars set

The Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration will host a Professional Development Seminar Series titled, “Strategic Management of Human Resources.”  

This series will feature the following events:

  • Seminar #1: Selecting Energetic Staff, Friday, March 23, 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn practical steps in how to manage selection alternatives, processes and expectations to recruit a talented workforce while maximizing strategic consistency and minimizing liability and costs.
  • Seminar #2: Managing & Retaining Talent, Friday, April 27, 9 a.m. to noon. The seminar emphasizes strategic application of performance management, staff incentives, and other opportunities to both evolve competencies of your workforce and preserve those resources in your organization.
  • Seminar #3: Human Capital as an Investment, Friday, May 25, 9 a.m. to noon. The seminar will present best practices of human resource management, introduce methods of examining returns from human capital investments, and highlight strategic alignment across functions.

All seminars will be held in the Williamson College of Business Administration Conference Center on the 3rd Floor of Williamson Hall. Parking is available on Wood Street. Registration and continental breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m.

The cost is $50 per session or $135 for advance reservation of all three seminars. Advanced registration and payment is required. Online registration is available at www.ysu.edu/wcba. Seating is limited to 50 per seminar.  Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Supervisors and prospective supervisors from all employment sectors (nonprofit, private, public) are welcome. Information presented will help in effective management of employees and/or volunteers. Professional CEU’s available upon request.

The facilitator for all three seminars is Jacob W. Breland, SPHR, assistant professor of Management in the WCBA.  In this role, he serves his students and larger community as a resource for HR-related information. Breland routinely publishes, consults and speaks on topics relevant to maximizing the returns from their human talent. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi and an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi.  He also holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources designation, an internationally recognized certification awarded by the Society for Human Resource Management for those with significant levels of HR knowledge and experience.
