SMARTS hosts Classic Rock Stars Exhibit

Youngstown native and nationally-renowned artist Chris Yambar brings his Classic Rock Stars Exhibit to Youngstown State University’s SMARTS Center on Federal Plaza West in downtown Youngstown.

A public reception will be held 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 23. Light refreshments will be served, and Yambar will be available to sign autographs.

The exhibition, which runs through May 31, features images from live concert performances captured by world class Cleveland photographer Janet Mocaska. Each image has been colored using acrylic enamel and collaged in a reverse-glass painting technique. The exhibition also includes several hand-painted images that have never been available for sale to the public.

Yambar is a well-traveled national art celebrity who has created more than 2,500 painted images and has artwork in more than 100 celebrity collections in eight countries. His comic book credits include Bart Simpson Comics, I Dream of Jeannie, Mr. Magoo, and Radioactive Man. His efforts have gained him numerous honors including the Big Amoeba Award for Best Independent Comic Writer and Publisher in 1999 and Cinescape magazine’s Best Science Fiction Comic Writer in 2003.

SMARTS—Students Motivated by the Arts is an arts education program at YSU’s colleges of Fine and Performing Arts and Education. The program seeks to motivate students to succeed in all areas of life by teaching them the discipline and focus that creating art requires.
