Prescription Drop-Off Box installed at YSUPD
Youngstown State University has installed a Prescription Drop-Off Box so YSU employees and members of the community can safely and securely dispose of old and outdated prescriptions, syringes and needles.
The box, a collaborative effort between the YSU Police Department, YSU Department of Campus Recreation, Coalition for a Drug Free Mahoning County and YSU for Recovery, is located at the YSU Police Department, 266 W. Wood St.
Matthew S. Miner, coordinator of YSU For Recovery, said the box is designed to reduce prescription drugs on the YSU campus and in the community. “These same drugs, unfortunately, have become the target of theft and misuse,” Miner said. “This effort also hopes to impact the environment, by eliminating prescriptions that are disposed of improperly. This program provides a safe and environmental-friendly destruction of controlled substances that normally might get flushed down toilets, tossed into the trash, or even thrown on the side of the road.”
“This is a great program that provides a safe, convenient and safe-haven to get rid of prescription drugs and illegal drugs,” YSU Police Chief John Beshara said.
