Power of the Arts Town Hall on July 11

Power of the ArtsPower of the Arts, a community arts and culture organization, hosts a Town Hall session 3 p.m. Friday, July 11 in Bliss Recital Hall on the first floor of Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The event is free and open to the public.

At the session, attendees will hear the findings of a survey of arts and culture organizations and artists and will get an update about the Power of the Arts efforts in Columbus.

Power of the Arts is actively pursuing modification of the Ohio Revised Code to allow counties with populations under 1.2 million to fund arts and cultural districts with a cigarette tax (now, only Cuyahoga County is eligible) with a goal of creating a sustainable funding for arts and culture in the Mahoning Valley.

The Town Hall meeting will also give attendees an opportunity to meet other representatives from arts and culture organizations who are committed to the power of the arts in the Mahoning Valley. Planning for future arts initiatives will also begin where those in attendance can voice their opinions regarding the direction of the Power of the Arts and how it can help propel the arts and culture in the Mahoning Valley.

The mission of the Power of the Arts is to create and sustain a collaborative structure for the arts and culture community to effectively participate in the region’s revitalization and economic development and to positively impact citizens’ quality of life.
