OAND PictureIn 2011, Alexis Weber, nee Allen came to YSU, and she has been hard at work ever since. Not willing to let her time go to waste, Alexis sped through her program in the Coordinated Program in Dietetics in the Department of Human Ecology, and will graduate this August.

She has recently been awarded the Outstanding Dietetic Student for 2014 from the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Alexis will be honored at the state-wide conference on May 15th and 16th, 2014. The Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Outstanding Student award is given annually to a student who exemplifies academic achievement, scholarship, leadership, critical thinking, honors, professional potential, service, and the ability to balance many aspects of life.

After graduating from Austintown Fitch in 2008, she attended two Le Cordon Bleu Culinary campuses and earned an associate’s degree in Pastry Arts, and a bachelor’s in Culinary Management. Alexis earned an associate’s degree in Food and Nutrition from YSU.

During her time at YSU, she has earned over $20,000.00 in scholarships. She is a student liaison for the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Mahoning Valley Dietetic Association.  In 2012, she was elected President of the Food and Nutrition Students organization at YSU. During her leadership, she spearheaded and edited a cookbook fundraiser earning $1800 in profits, affording 12 students to attend the annual O.A.N.D conference in 2013. She also works as an office assistant for the Department of Physical Therapy, and is the owner of The Cake Baker, an Austintown-based specialty baking business run from her home.

It is this long list of hard work and achievements that led her to be nominated for and win the OAND Outstanding Dietetic Student for 2014.

Upon graduation, Alexis will pursue a career in food manufacturing, specifically in sensory research, development or regulatory affairs. She also plans to continue her education at the master’s level in the near future and raise a family with her husband, Jordan.
