Free income tax assistance available at Williamson Hall

February 1, 2013  |

The Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance at Youngstown State University is working with trained business students and professional volunteers from the area to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

VITA offers income tax preparation at no charge to the local residents and, at the same time, provides hands-on experience to skilled business students at YSU. Income tax preparation is done in computer labs on the first floor of Williamson Hall through April 13. The dates and times are listed at the end of this release.

VITA offers free income tax assistance to taxpayers and evaluates credits and deductions for which they may be eligible. Free electronic filing is also available.  VITA volunteers must complete an IRS training course in income tax return preparation before they can assist taxpayers.

Taxpayers who visit a VITA site should bring wage and earnings statements (Form W-2) from all employers, interest statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of last year’s tax return if available, and other relevant information about income and expenses.

Williamson Hall is located on 221 North Hazel Street between Rayen Avenue and Wood Street on the YSU campus.

Walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment or to receive additional information, call 330-941-3084.
