Football conference honors senior for academic excellence

Student Success Nate Adams PhotoSenior finance major Nate Adams of Newark, Ohio, a Penguin football tight end, won top honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference for his academic achievements.

Adams was awarded the President’s Council Academic Award, which required a 3.5 cumulative GPA through the fall 2013 semester, along with participation in athletics for a minimum of two years. The award is given only to student-athletes who are within 18 hours of graduation.

A graduate of Newark Catholic where he played football, baseball and basketball, Adams has played three years and earned three letters in football as a Penguin. He played all 12 games in the 2013 season and caught 15 passes for 225 yards and four touchdowns.

Ten Penguin athletes received the Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award. They are: Adams, Antoine Cox, Mason Giacomelli, Kurt Hess, Nick Liste, Johnny Medina, D.J. Moss, Torrian Pace, Dom Rich and Carson Sharbaugh.

Forty-three YSU athletes were named to the conference’s 2013-14 Academic Honor Roll.
