BLK experience YYoungstown State University’s “Experience Y” television advertising campaign received a Merit Award in the Educational Advertising Awards sponsored by the Higher Education Marketing Report.

“It is very gratifying to receive a peer-reviewed award like this recognizing our creative work,” said Mark Van Tilburg, executive director of the YSU Office of Marketing Communications.

The contest, the largest educational advertising awards competition in the country, included nearly 2,000 entries from more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools worldwide. Entries were judged by a national panel of industry specialists for creativity, marketing execution and message impact.

YSU’s Merit Award was in the category Television Advertising, Series.

The “Experience Y!” campaign was developed in fall 2013 as a way to encourage potential students to consider the wide range of academic, social and professional experiences offered by YSU. Van Tilburg said this award recognizes one of the major components of the “Experience Y” marketing campaign that includes engagements with the full range of traditional, new and social media.

“The campaign was a true team effort from its inception through execution and media deployment,” he said. “Renee Cannon, our graphic artist, photographer Bruce Palmer, Ross Morrone, assistant director, Andrea Tharp, our social media expert, Joel Lewis, videographer, and Angela Ireland, our production supervisor, all worked together to bring this endeavor to fruition.”
