Work continued over the winter break to upgrade the university’s elevators.

The north elevators in Cushwa Hall are being completely replaced, while the units in Bliss Hall were updated. During the spring semester, one of the elevators in Maag Library will be replaced, and elevators in the Lincoln Building will be replaced over the summer.

The work is part of a $2 million state-funded plan spanning fiscal years 2013 and 2014 to update campus elevators, said Rich White, associate director of Planning Construction. He said the upgrades were necessary to help the elevators run more consistently and because it is increasingly difficult to get parts for the aging equipment.

The university has requested $2.5 million in state capital funds for fiscal years 2015 and 2016 to continue the campus wide elevator improvements.
