The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University hosts the second annual Horn Workshop noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in Room 2326 of Bliss Hall on the YSU campus.

The event is geared towards high school and college horn players. Guest clinician is YSU alumnus Brett Miller, who performs in the Ceremonial Brass in the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington D.C.

The clinic is free and open to the public and geared towards musicians of all levels. Students should bring their own instruments but do not need to bring sheet music. The clinic includes a recital by Miller and Stacie Mickens, Dana School of Music assistant professor of horn and Dr. Miller; two master classes; and horn choir as well as horn displays and merchandise from Motter’s Music.

Free parking is available in the M4 lot north of Pollock House on Wick Avenue, or in the V4 lot just south of Meshel Hall on Wick Avenue. While reservations are not mandatory, students are asked to confirm their attendance by emailing Mickens at srmickens@ysu.edu.

Miller, a member of the Air Force Band for 10 years, has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. He frequently performs with his brass quintet, Brass Mosaic. Miller’s recent CD release, The Underside of Orange, features eight works that he composed and performs. Miller earned a doctor of musical arts degree in horn performance from the University of Maryland. He earned his master of music degree in horn performance from Indiana University and a bachelor of music degree in horn performance from YSU.
