The Regional Chamber, Youngstown State University and other area educational institutions are convening two breakfast information and recruitment workshops in April for employers to learn about internship/co-op programs being planned for manufacturing-related careers.

The complimentary breakfast events will be Tuesday, April 1, at the Holiday Inn Boardman and Thursday, April 24, at Trumbull Country Club. Each program will begin with registration and breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with presentations running from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration is required by contacting Jennifer Mascardine at (330) 744-2131 ext. 12 or emailing her at Jennifer@regionalchamber.com.

An explanation of the programs and the financial assistance available to employers and students will be explained. In addition, a representative from the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education will give a presentation on effective internship/co-op programs.

The workshops are made possible by two grants recently received by the YSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics: OH-PENN Pathways to Competitiveness Manufacturing Internship Clearinghouse (OPMIC aka OH-PENN Internship Clearinghouse), and State of Ohio Program for Internships and Co-Ops in Advanced Manufacturing (PICAM).

YSU’s STEM College and Williamson College of Business Administration are partnering with Butler County (Pa.) Community College; Choffin Career Center, Youngstown; Columbiana County Career & Technical Center; Eastern Gateway Community College; Kent State University Trumbull Campus; Mahoning County Career & Technical Center; Penn State University-Shenango, Sharon, Pa.; Trumbull County Career & Technical Center; and Thiel College, Greenville, Pa.

Each of the educational institutions has students from various disciplines for internships/co-ops in such areas as welding, engineering, computer technology and business.
