Air quality is topic of lecture this week

“Air Quality Issues Related to Oil and Gas Development” is the topic of a presentation noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The presentation is by Deborah R. Cowden, MD, of Loudonville, Ohio. Cowden has been a board certified family medicine practitioner since 1996, working on several U.S. Air Force bases as well as in rural Ohio. She is a graduate of Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton and completed her residency at the Dayton Area Community Family Practice. Currently, she is the president of the Greene County (Ohio) Medical Society. Additionally, she is an active member of the Ohio State Medical Association, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, the Institute for Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Cowden will give an overview of current scientific literature and research that focuses on public health risks associated with air pollution caused by natural gas production.

The lecture is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences.
